New Orleans Parents’ Guide to Public Schools

2012 Parents' Guide Cover

 2012 edition

The Parents' Guide is a resource guide for parents. In the guide you can find information about every public school in New Orleans as well as tips to help you find and fight for quality public schools.

You can download the 2012 edition here or you can pick up a copy at a branch of the New Orleans Public Library or at a public school in Orleans Parish beginning the week of Feb. 27, 2012.

Updates and Corrections to the 2012 Edition

Although we work very hard to include the most up-to-date and accurate information in the Parents' Guide, sometimes errors slip through our proofing process. As errors are brought to our attention, we make updates to the online edition and will ad a running list here and on our main page. Thanks to everyone who has let us know about mistakes in the 2011 edition.

Updates:

OPSB Application Deadline: Schools in the Orleans Parish School Board district extended their application deadline from Dec. 2, 2011 to Feb. 1, 2012. The printed editon of the 2012 Parents' Guide reflects the original date but the extended deadline is reflected in the online edition.

Corrections:

Page 52: James Singleton Charter School received a performance grade of D. In the printed edition, Singleton's letter grade score is incorrect. This error is corrected in the electronic version available on this website.

Page 52: Eleanor McMain Secondary School received a performance grade of B+. In the printed edition, McMain's letter grade score is incorrect. This error is corrected in the electronic version available on this website.

Help keep the Parents' Guide in print

Each year our small non-profit organization works hard to gather information from schools, carefully layout the information in way that’s easy to use and then prints more than 10,000 copies of the Parents’ Guide at a cost of about $50,000 (about $5 per copy). We never charge for the Parents’ Guide because we believe that information about schools should be easily accessible especially to families who need this access most.

Just $20 can help us get the Parents’ Guide into the hands of 5 families and help as many as 20 children get into a public school.
